James Tulloch was born at Marylebone in 1843, the second child of Dr James & Margaret Tulloch, was baptised at St Mary's, Bryanston Square in April 1843.
Going out to India as an indigo planter, he appears to have worked his entire career as Manager of the Lehra Indigo Concession. Besides this, he was appointed a 2nd Lieutenant in the Gorakhpur Light Horse on 2 August 1890. He was promoted to Lieutenant on 30 September 1892 and to Captain on 4 May 1894. Following an amalgamation of units in 1904, Captain Tulloch served in the Gorakhpur Squadron of the United Provinces Light Horse. He was awarded the Indian Volunteer Forces Officers’ Decoration in the Gazette of India of 7 May 1904, being the local Officiating Commandant. He died of cancer on 20 April 1905 and was buried on the estate at Lehra; sold together with copied research.
