The Victoria Faithful Service Medal awarded to Coachman G. Woods, who served the Royal Household for over four decades

Victoria Faithful Service Medal, the reverse officially inscribed, ‘To Mr George Woods, Coachman, for faithful services to the Queen during 40 years, 1899’, edge embossed, ‘Presented by Queen Victoria 1872’, complete with original elaborate suspension and tartan ribbon, good very fine

George Woods was born at Docking, Norfolk circa 1837 and entered the service of Queen Victoria in 1859. Having served the Queen faithfully for 40 years, he took the 130th Victoria Faithful Service Medal. It is interesting to note that the 129th recipient was William Woods - thus perhaps a brother.

Woods died at 22 Adelaide Square, Windsor on 14 April 1906 and is buried in Clewer Churchyard.
