(x) An 18th-century archive relating to Admiral Earl Howe, the hero of the Glorious First of June 1794

Autograph letter addressed to Rear-Admiral Affleck regarding a command appointment for a Lieutenant, written and signed by Howe at the Admiralty Office, London, dated 5 December 1787, ageing, very fine paper repairs to folds and damage caused by seal;

Letter addressed to His Excellency General Elliot regarding his imminent arrival with troops and provisions to relieve Gibraltar, signed by Howe aboard H.M.S. Victory at sea, dated 3 October 1782, tears along folds and minor pinholes, does not interfere with legibility of text;

Autograph letter addressed to then-Captain John Jervis regarding a Press Warrant, written aboard Victory, on ‘sunday morn’ 1782, delicate with slits along folds, some edge wear, text legible;

Order “not to impress any Men who shall appear to be regularly protected", signed by Vice-Admiral Howe aboard H.M.S. Queen Charlotte, dated 14 August 1790, in delicate condition, significant tear to lower corner and large split along most of edge, tape repairs to central fold reverse, otherwise text is clear and legible;

Together with four attractive portrait prints of Admiral Howe, of these, one with foxing and one with edge wear, overall clear condition (8)
