Roman Empire, Septimius Severus (AD 193-211), Civil War Issues, AR Denarii (4): i) Rome, L SEPT SEV PERT AVG [IMP IIII], laureate head right, rev. APOLLONI AVGVSTO, Apollo standing facing, holding patera and lyre, 2.38g (RIC 40; BMC 78), struck slightly off-centre, fine; ii) another, as before, rev. MARS PATER, Mars advancing right, holding spear and trophy, 2.53g (RIC 46; BMC 84), slightly worn, fine; iii) another, as before, 2.07g, slightly worn, good to fine; iv) another, as before, L SEPT SEV PERT AVG IMP V, rev. P M TR P III COS II P P, Minerva standing left, holding spear and shield, 2.71g (RIC 61; BMC 114), struck slightly off-centre, good to fine; (4).

Regarding ii and iii, the BM Report lists these as possible contemporary forgeries, noting "Die possibly tooled from PACATOR? The other coin is weekly struck and the E in PATER appears as R. Possible forgeries?"
