(x) Cnut 'the Great' (1016-1035), 'Short Cross' Type, Penny, 1029-1035, Wilton, Ælfræd, + CNVT:-T REC•X: diademed bust left with six horizontal folds and seven vertical pellets to drapery; fleur de lis-tipped sceptre before, double-tie behind neck, rev. + ÆL•FR•ED ON PILTV, voided short cross with large pellet in centre within inner circle, 1.13g [17.44grns], 6h (Hildebrand 559 [Type H]; SCBI 15 [Copenhagen, Part IIIc, 3981 same dies; North 790; BMC XVI; S.1159), the reverse a trace off-centre with pecking in quarters, otherwise toned, very fine, very rare
