A Presentation Velvet and Bullion Scroll presented to Colonel R. E. Harenc, 2nd Lancers,
a privately produced presentation scroll of maroon velvet and bullion thread 40.5cm x 35cm, central Urdu script in finely woven bullion wire with 2nd Scinde cap badge above with 'Col. R. E. Harenc.' below and surrounded by laurel leaf, in good overall condition with minor toning to the bullion in places
Roger Edward Harenc was born at Marylebone, London, on 31 October 1883 and commissioned 2nd Lieutenant (unattached) on 12 January 1903; Second Lieutenant Indian Army 18 January 1905; Lieutenant 9 October 1905; Captain 21 January 1912. Serving with the4th Cavalry on the outbreak of the Great War he entered the war in France on 12 October 1914, being twice 'mentioned London Gazette 15 June 1916 and 19 October 1916. Advanced Major on 21 January 1918, Harenc is entitled to a 1914 Star Trio with clasp which was issued by the Government of India. He was employed with the Turkish Gendarmerie 7 February 1921 - 31 March 1922 and later served with the Military Attache at Constantinople 9 April 1924. Retiring from the Indian Army on 1 May 1934 he died at Bicknoller, Somerset on 24 August 1959.
Sold together with a farewell statement from the Indian Officers and Other Ranks of the 2nd Lancers, Ferozepore, 1 November 1933 written in English on one side and Urdu on the other.
