Charles Cousens was born on 18 November 1863 at Titchfield, Hampshire and was an agricultural labourer when he enlisted in the Royal Navy on 11 February 1883. He served in a variety of vessels including Asia, Assistance, Fearless and the shore base Victory. Shore pensioned on 25 February 1903, he joined the Royal Fleet Reserve the next day and was discharged medically unfit on 3 May 1909. He appears upon the 1911 census living at Portsmouth, his occupation given as a Steam Launch Engine Driver.
John Duncan was born on 10 February 1851 and enlisted in the Royal Marine Light Infantry (Portsmouth Division) on 10 December 1877; sold together with copied research.
