(x) Royal Navy L.S. & G.C., V.R. (J. W. Perry, Lg. Sto., 1 CL., H.M.S. Fearless.), a couple of light contact marks, otherwise very fine

John William Perry was born at Mold, North Wales, on 24 December 1873 and was an iron moulder before enlisting into the Royal Navy on 12 August 1896 as a Stoker 2nd Class. He served afloat for the first time with Revenge from 2 October 1897 until removing to Duke of Wellington on 15 December 1899 and then serving on Excellent from 24 February 1901 until 30 August 1902.

Perry then briefly served on the Duke of Wellington II from 31 August 1902 before joining the crew of Good Hope on 8 November 1902. He next served on Firequeen from 27 April 1904 until 30 September 1904 and finally served on Formidable from 1 December 1904 until his discharge on 1 June 1905 at Portsmouth.

Perry was anything but the model sailor and had twelve incidents which merited a stay in the cells as well as two bouts of hard labour for being absent and insubordination.
