Victory Medal 1914-19 (Capt. J. L. Bishopric.), light contact marks, very fine
John Lloyd Bishopric was born on 3 August 1885 in Toronto, Ontario in Canada to Oscar William Bishopric and his wife Sarah. Bishopric gave his trade as 'gentleman' upon attesting for the Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Force on 4 January 1915 at Edmonton, Alberta. At the time, he had been serving as a member of the 101st Edmonton Fusiliers active militia.
Bishopric embarked at Halifax on 27 September 1916 for England and disembarked at Liverpool the following month. He proceeded to Thorncliffe and then to Shoreham in December, where he was attached to the 194th Battalion. Later that same month, Bishopric transferred to the 9th Reserve Battalion at Bramshott. He reverted to the temporary rank of Lieutenant (which appeared in the London Gazette on 11 August 1917) in order to go overseas, proceeding to France on 27 July 1917 where he joined the 49th Battalion the following month.
On 4 September Bishopric was wounded in action at duty and, little over a month later, he was reported as being killed in action in the field in Belgium on 29 October 1917. His medals were sent to his father Oscar, who had been widowed, at 10309 Villa Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta. He is commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial in Ypres, Belgium and is further entitled to a War Medal 1914-18; sold together with CD of research and copied research.
