The Victory Medal 1914-19 awarded to Battery Quartermaster Sergeant M. J. Forristal who won the Military Medal in 1918 whilst serving with the Canadian Field Artillery

Michael James Forristal enlisted at Valcartier on 22 September 1914 and joined the 2nd Field Battery of the Canadian Artillery. He embarked from Canada on 28 September 1914 for the U.K. and left again from Avonmouth on 8 February 1915, crossing to France. He was promoted Acting Bombardier on 9 April 1916 and Bombardier on 27 August 1916. Forristal suffered a slight wound to his right shoulder on 9 September 1916 and spent a day in the 1/3 West Riding Field Ambulance and was further hospitalised again as a result of appendicitis on 4 November 1916, eventually being released to the Field on 19 November. He was awarded a Military Medal, for which he was gazetted on 23 February 1918, and was later promoted to Sergeant on 30 March 1918. Forristal was discharged from the service on 9 May 1919 and died in 1968 being interred at the Queen’s Lawn Cemetery in Grimsby, Ontario, Canada.
