'[O.B.E.] London Gazette January 1945; 'For outstanding ability in organizing the development, growth and training of His Majesty's Canadian Signal School at St. Hyacinthe, Quebec. His success in establishing cordial relations with the local civil population has been exceptional.' Alured Philip Musgrave was born on 5 March 1899 in Branciforte, Santa Cruz, California, USA. He came to Canada with his family in 1902 and joined the Royal Canadian Navy through the Royal Naval College of Canada in 1914. He was commissioned as a Midshipman on 2 February 1917, and served during the war with the Royal Navy, on Leviathan, Carnarvon, Roxburgh, Minotaur and Canada, being promoted Sub-Lieutenant on 3 June 1919 before retiring from service. Musgrave next went to Ireland, where he served in the Auxiliary Division of the Royal Irish Constabulary. He returned to the fold during the Second World War, being rewarded with the O.B.E., and was finally retired Captain, with the C.D. to his name in September 1952.
