Royal Navy L.S. & G.C., G.V.R. (181434. W. H. Shearer, A.B. H.M.S. Vivid.), nearly very fine

William Harker Shearer was born at Leeds on 21 March 1878 and was a driver when he entered the Royal Navy in 1896. Shore pensioned on 20 March 1908, he joined the Royal Fleet Reserve on 5 April 1908 being recalled for service on 2 August 1914.

He had continuous service during the First World War and was serving in Goshawk during the Battle of Jutland. Awarded his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal on 26 November 1918 he was discharged to shore on 11 February 1919 in receipt of a war gratuity; sold together with a copy of his service record.
