William Herbert Ashley first served overseas in France from 13 August 1914. He suffered a gun shot wound to the left leg on 8 November 1914 which resulted in an operation taking place on 17 November 1914 at the 2nd General Hospital, before being wounded again on the 28 November 1914. His medals were sent to Sherval Lodge, Goring Heath, Oxfordshire.
