They arrived at Poperinghe, west of Ypres, on 15 August 1917 and moved to the trenches at Wieltje on 20 August. Two days later, they participated in an attack on the German defences south-east of St. Julien, and it was either during this attack or shortly afterwards that Mills died due to inflicted wounds at just 19 years old. He is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial to the Missing in Zonneke, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium.
