Ernest Albert Kenshole was born in 1899 in Tiverton, Devon and enlisted there with the Royal Berkshire Regiment in early 1917. He first joined the 2/4th Royal Berkshire Territorial Force in France before transferring to the 1st Royal Berkshire Regiment. Kenshole was with his unit during the assault on Forenville on 8 October 1818, on which they began to advance alongside the 23rd Royal Fusiliers and the King's Royal Rifle Corps early that morning. They were forced back by machine gun and tank fire but advanced again in the afternoon and helped to successfully capture Forenville that evening. Kenshole was killed in action during this engagement and was buried at the Rumilly-en-Cambresis Communal Cemetery, 4km west of Forenville; sold together with copied research and war grave photographs.
