(x) Four: Sergeant Peter Grant, Royal Scots, who was killed in action during the Spring Offensive

1914-15 Star (350017 Sjt.P.Grant. R.Scots.); British War and Victory Medals (350017 Sjt.P.Grant. R.Scots); Territorial Force Efficiency Medal, G.V.R. (350017 Sjt.P.Grant. 9-R.Scots.), contact marks, very fine (4)

Peter Grant was born at East Linton in East Lothian, his original service number was 133 when he enlisted in 1908, suggesting that he was one of the original members of the 9th Battalion when it was formed. The Depot was in East Clermont Street, Edinburgh. Sergeant Grant, while serving with the 9th Battalion Royal Scots, died on 24 March 1918 and is commemorated on the Pozieres Memorial. The War Diary for the 9th states:

'On 24th March, 1918 the 9th RS took part in a counter-attack on Bethencourt, they began their advance after noon supported by a light artillery barrage, the advance was checked by very heavy mg fire in front of Mesnil. The battalion reorganised and held firm the line until relived the next by the A&S Highlanders.'

A note on his medal index card states that his medals were re-issued in 1938, the naming on this group however is correct for the Great War issue.
