Lionel Hanks Weedon was born on 3 November 1894 at Chatteris, North Witchford, Cambridgeshire. He enlisted with the Essex Regiment on 25 September 1914 and first served overseas in France with the 9th Battalion Essex Regiment on 30 May 1915. Weedon completed his service with the Essex Regiment on 26 June 1917 and became an Officer Cadet on 27 June 1917. He was commissioned Second Lieutenant with the General List on 25 September 1917, attesting with the Royal Flying Corps on 27 September 1917. He went to 31 Training Squadron based at Reading, where he was posted from 26 October 1917 until 11 January 1918. He was then posted to R.A.F. Station Mellion and then to 493 Flight. Weedon spent time in Hospital at South Queensferry and the Eastern General Hospital in Cambridge. Weedon was placed on the unemployed list from 2 June 1919. He was considered fit for flying in the Reserve on 6 April 1923 and his service record shows he flew DH6, BE2e, RE8, DH9.

His medals were sent to 7 Park Street, Chatteris, Cambridgeshire.
