Edwin Cragg Dunstan was born in 1882 in Paddington, London and attested with the 1st Royal Fusiliers at Oxford in August 1899. He was stationed in India from March 1901 until October 1907, where he was promoted Corporal in February 1907. Dunstan transferred to the Army Reserve upon his return home and married Emily Ellen O'Connor in Reading in 1908. Dunstan and his wife lived in Ascot where he worked as a postman, and he was later discharged in August 1911 upon his completion of twelve years' service.
During the Great War, Dunstan served with the 4th Royal Berkshire Regiment as a Private and arrived in France in March 1915. He was awarded his Territorial Efficiency Medal on 20 May 1924 following twelve years of service with his Regiment. Dunstan died in September 1960 at the Canadian Red Cross Memorial Hospital in Taplow, Berkshire.
