1914-15 Star (1976, L-Cpl. C. G. P. Andrews, Berks. Yeo.); British War and Victory Medals (1976 Pte. C. G. P. Andrews. Berks. Yeo.), very fine (3)

Cecil George Philip Andrews was born in 1886 in Buckinghamshire and arrived in Egypt in April 1915 in the A (Windsor) Squadron of the Berkshire Yeomanry. He disembarked from Alexandria for Gallipoli with his Regiment on the S.S. Lake Michigan and landed in Sulva Bay in August 1915. They marched at night before participating in the Battle of Scimitar Hill on 21 August 1915, during which the Berkshire Yeomanry led the advance and attack on the hill. They captured the enemy's first trench but were forced to evacuate due to heavy fire which resulted in a 70% casualty rate of the unit. Andrews was one of many to die during the battle, and he is commemorated on the Helles Memorial in Gallipoli; sold together with copied research and original box, though damaged and in poor condition.
