Parker. for merit 10.11.26.', silver, hallmarked for Birmingham, pitting overall, very fine (5)
George Alfred Parker was born at Thorpe Hamlet, Norwich in 1882 and enlisted with the Norfolk Regiment on 11 December 1900. Posted to the 2nd Battalion in April 1902 he saw service with them in South Africa during that year before being transferred to India after the end of the war.
Transferring to the Army Reserve Parker was later mobilised for service with the 1st Battalion in 1914. Entering the war in September 1914 he served with the Battalion from that point, they saw action on the Aisne and at the First Battle of Ypres that same year. Present for the Second Battle of Ypres later that year Parker was ordered to return to Britain in June 1915.
Joining the 3rd Battalion there Parker saw home service, being transferred to the Royal Fusilier (Labour Company) in 1917 on the authority of the Harwich Garrison. From there he joined 302 Company, Labour Corps he spent the rest of the war service with various Labour companies in Britian.
Sold together with an original riband bar, photograph of the recipient in full uniform and a postcard to his father depicting the Regimental Mascot.
