One of 89 1891-2 clasps issued to H.M.S. Racer.

George Batchelor was born at Newdigate, Surrey on 12 November 1872 and enlisted with the Royal Navy as Boy Class II on 5 May 1895. Posted to Shannon on 2 April 1890 he reached his majority with that ship at the end of the year. Joining Racer on 21 April 1891 he was with her off West Africa at the end of the year when she took part in the expedition against Chief Fodeh Cabbah in Gambia.

He continued to serve, spending time with Repulse, Isis and Warspite as well as Dyad from which he was discharged in February 1914. Returning to service on the outbreak of the Great War Batchelor saw service ashore for the duration of the conflict, he was discharged again on 11 November 1919.
