General Service 1918-62, 1 clasp, Cyprus (23252352 Gdsm. R. Ashley. Gren. Gds.), mounted ordinary style as worn, (good very fine)

Robert Ashley was born on 2 December 1937 at Fulham, London, and worked as a gas fitter's mate before enlisting into the Grenadier Guards on 30 April 1956. His attestation papers note that he had previously been an Army Cadet for three years. He was posted to the 1st Battalion, West Germany on 3 November 1956, serving there briefly until returning to England just over a month later on 20 December 1957. Ashley was soon afterwards stationed with the 3rd Battalion in Cyprus on 2 February 1957, and remained there until a peace settlement was reached. He left Cyprus on 28 March 1959 and was soon after transferred to Section 'A' Army Reserve on 20 April. Ashley later married Glenda Joan Fanell at Fulham on 23 December 1961, where they lived together.

Sold together with copied research including service records, as well as a greeting card featuring the 3rd Battalion of the Grenadier Guards Trooping the Colour in 1927.
