(x) British War Medal 1914-20 (Capt. W.Perry.), very fine

William Perry was born on 10 December 1868 at Woodrooff, Clonmel, County Tipperary, Ireland. Commissioned in the 5th Battalion, The Royal Irish Regiment he embarked for Lemnos on 22 July 1915 and served at Gallipoli before being invalided through sickness to Alexandria on 28 August 1915 and England on 16 October 1915. He subsequently relinquished his commission on 2 April 1918 due to illness contracted on overseas service.

The Perrys were established at Woodrooff, Clonmel, County Tipperary, from the beginning of the 18th century. In 1703 John Perry of Woodruffe bought part of the estate of King James II in the barony of Iffa and Offa. Samuel Perry married Phoebe Norcott and had two sons, William, who inherited Woodrooff from his uncle John Perry, and Richard, a merchant in Cork. William's eldest son, Samuel Perry, married the Honourable Deborah Prittie, second daughter of the 1st Baron Dunalley. Perry died on 15 January 1944; sold together with copied research and a CD of research.
