Walter Charles Sewell was born in 1878 in Islington and attested with the 58th Company Imperial Yeomanry in London after working as a carpenter. Sewell was posted to South Africa in March 1901 and suffered a wound in his left hand near Vleyplaatz on 12 May 1902. Upon his return home from South Africa in August 1902, Sewell was discharged at Aldershot and intended to continue residing in London; sold together with copied research.
