1914-15 Star (S-10494 L. Cpl F. L . Lee. Rif: Brig:); British War and Victory Medals (S-10494 Pte. F. L. Lee. Rif. Brig.), sold together with a silver war badge numbered '39599', good very fine (3)

Francis Leslie Lee was born at Aston, Warwickshire in 1895 and worked as a Jeweller prior to enlisting on 6 May 1915 with the Rifle Brigade. Posted to the 13th Battalion in France on 26 August 1915 he was seriously wounded while in the trenches on 1 May 1916. A piece of shrapnel struck him in the groin, however Lee was able to recover from his injuries having been invalided to Britain.

He was posted to the 1st Reserve Battalion, Suffolk Regiment and was injured whilst training with them, his medical records add detail stating:

'...whilst practicing bayonet fighting at Minster he broke his right ankle. Wound in groin gives very little trouble. There is a great deal of thickness about the injured ankle, there is almost complete ankylosis of the joint. Great difficulty in walking + considerable pain when he likes.'

Lee was unable to recover and was invalided from service on 4 May 1917; sold together with a Rifle Brigade cap badge and copied service papers.
