Royal Navy L.S. & G.C., E.VII.R. (150161 W. G. Tabner, Sh. Corp. 1 Cl., H.M.S. Endymion.), good very fine

William George Tabner was born at Hackney on 5 January 1875 and he joined the Royal Navy on 9 October 1902 as a Ship's Corporal 2nd Class. Rewarded with his L.S. & G.C. on 13 June 1908 (indicating prior service), during the Great War he served aboard Antrim from 2 September 1911-23 August 1916. This would have seen him serving on the journey to Archangel in June 1916. He thence served aboard the Courageous from 4 November 1916 until his discharge as a Master-at-Arms on 22 February 1919, in that time sharing in the Second Battle of Heligoland Bight.
