William Roberts was born at Cowbridge, Glamorgan in 1891, the son of William and Sarah Roberts of 17 Dunaven Place, Ogmore Vale, Glamorgan. Enlisting at Ogmore Vale he entered the war in France on 5 September 1915. Moving to Salonica in October that same year the 11th Battalion were involved in a number of actions on that front including the Battle of Horseshoe Hill and the Second Battle of Doiran. They were again in action in September 1918 at the Third Battle of Doiran and in an attack on 19 September, in which they suffered losses of roughly half their strength Roberts was killed. He is buried at Doiran Military Cemetery; solf together with copied research including M.I.C., Commonwealth War Graves details, census data and an extract from the Records of the Royal Welch Fusiliers.
