Four: Private F. Reynolds, 2nd Battalion, Cheshire Regiment, late Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment), who was killed in action on 3 October 1915 during a German counter-attack on Hohenzollern Redoubt during the Battle of Loos

Ferdinand Reynolds was born at Skegby, Nottinghamshire in July 1891, the son of William and Louise Reynolds of 164 The Forest, Skegby. Prior to the war he married Jane Reynolds of 5 Brook Street, Hucknall, Nottingham later enlisting at Mansfield, Nottingham. He entered the war on 15 July 1915 in France and served until 3 October 1915. On this day the Battalion was involved in defending the British toeholds on the Hohenzollern Reboubt, the war diary states that:

'The enemy delivered an unexpected attack on our left with bombs and machine guns and eventually turned it. The Battn. fought well but were driven back.'

Pushed out from their positions the Battalion was withdrawn from the line however Reynolds was not with them, having been killed in the course of the days fighting. He is remembered on the Loos Memorial; sold together with copied research including Commonwealth War Graves details, M.I.C. and an extract from the Battalion war diary.
