John Anderson Henry Downie was born at Liverpool in April 1895, the son of William and Jeanie Downie of 49 Endbourne Road, Liverpool. Working as a Journalist prior to enlisting at Liverpool on 2 September 1914 Downie joined 19th Battalion (3rd City) in France on 7 November 1915. Downie was killed in action on 22 January 1916 and is buried at Carnoy Military Cemetery; sold together with copied research including M.I.C. and Commonwealth War Graves details.
