Four: Corporal C. Barker, 11th Battalion (2nd Hull Tradesmen), East Yorkshire Regiment, who was killed in action in the Hebuterne Sector of the Line on 20 October 1916

Christopher Barker was born at Hull, Yorkshire in 1892, the son of George and Mary Barker of 64 Seaton Street, Hull. He worked as a labourer in one of the cities Oil Works prior to enlisting on 8 September 1914 at Hull with the East Yorkshire Regiment. Promoted Corporal on 12 September he entered the war in Egypt on 23 December 1915. Embarking for France at Port Said on 29 February 1916 he arrived at Marseilles on 7 March 1916.
The 11th Battalion went into the line around Hebuterne in October 1916 remaining there for some time Barker was killed here on 20 October, one of two confirmed dead that day. He is buried at Hebuterne Military Cemetery; sold together with regimental two buttons, two East Yorkshire Regiment shoulder titles and a corresponding cap badge along with Commonwealth War Graves details, M.I.C. and a contemporary photograph of the recipient's gravesite.
