25r. composite stamp sized essay in blue-green and deep red, the vignette and frame printed separately, the latter touched up in Chinese white, affixed to card (89x 114mm) endorsed "Colours in design reversed.", lettered "D3" and dated "nov 27th. 11.. Notes: This essay was produced as part of a series of essays lettered 'A'-'I', there are three known modifications to 'D', of which this is the third. The frame in essay 'D3' differs slightly from the issued stamp in that the trunk at left is more raised while the tusk at right is less raised and both protrude from the outer frame line; a wonderful illustration of the artistic process.
