Great Britain: Birmingham & Staffordshire Gas Light Company, certificate for one £50 original share, 1845, #8, scrollwork left, black, together with one share of £20, 1856, #5474, attractive scrollwork at left with embossed seal in centre. The company was founded in 1825 to supply gas to Birmingham and surrounding towns. The Swan Village Gas Works, completed in 1829, were the largest in the country. Acquired by Birmingham Corporation in 1875. VF and EF (2).
