1866 (29 Oct.) blue envelope to Edinburgh marked "Registered & paid ..." bearing 1859 1c. pale rose (3), 5c. pale red and 17c. deep blue (2) tied by large barred circles with Montreal despatch c.d.s. at left, with light strikes of unframed "registered" (3) and St. Edward's crown/"registered", the reverse with Edinburgh arrival (10.11). There is a small part of the flap missing. A rare and desirable franking and is the only recorded British Packet cover with both the postage and registration fee paid in cash. S.G. 29, 31, 42

Pays 34c. postage plus 8c. registration. Carried on the Cunard packet 'Scotia'. which sailed from New York on 31 October 1866 and arrived in Liverpool on 10th November, the bag for Edinburgh was received the same day.
