1866 (10 Jan.) envelope to Birmingham, manuscript "Registered" bearing 1859 1c. deep rose (2), 5c. vermilion and 12½c. blue-green tied by large barred circle, with Montreal despatch c.d.s. and two strikes of unframed "registered" in red, the reverse with Birmingham arrival. A remarkable three-colour franking. S.G. 30, 31, 41

Carried on the Allan Line 'Nova Scotian'. Reputedly pays 12½c. Allan Line rate (effective 1 February 1866) plus the 8c. registration fee. From 1 February 1866 the registration fee was reduced to 4c.
