These were available up to 31 January 1923 when they ceased to be valid. On 17 December 1920 the League of Nations conferred a Mandate of Administration of the territory on His Britannic Majesty, to be carried out by the government in South Africa. The Mandate came into force on 1 January 1923, on which date the first South African stamps overprinted for use in the territory were issued

1917 (18 May)-19 (9 Apr.) envelopes each franked at 1d. and cancelled with rubber datestamps of Kleinkaras (rare), Klein Windhoek, Kub (no flap) and Neuheusis in violet, the Klein Windhoek in very dark ink, two with circular framed censor handstamps
