1856 surface-coloured paper, 4c. black on rose-carmine initialled "EDW" (E.D. Wight), cut leaving outer lettering virtually intact, neatly cancelled with Demerara double-arc datestamp for August (day unclear). 1856. R.P.S. Certificate (1998) states "the letters of "british" and some of the Demerara obliteration have been inked over. Extensive surface abrasions and some thins repaired", nevertheless a presentable example of this very rare stamp. S.G. 25, £40,000. Photo
