Kent, Eadberht Præn (796-798), Penny, 'Three Line Phase', Canterbury, Dudda, 1.39g, 1h, EAD . | BEARHT | REX in three lines divided by bars, trefoil before EAD and REX, rev. DV | DA in two lines, the fields ornamented with dense and loose clusters of pellets all in 'Boeotian shield' motif, with cross and pellets beside (EMC 2016.0254 this coin; Naismith C5.1a, same dies; N.202/1; Spink 875), of good fabric on a full flan with only a touch of striking softness to peripheries, otherwise extremely fine or near so, the finer of the two examples recorded for this moneyer and seemingly amongst the finest of the only two-dozen specimens of Praen's type I coinage, extremely rare thus
