Volunteer Force Long Service Medal (India & the Colonies), G.V.R. (Trooper H. S. Lewis. Assam V. L. H. A.F.I.), impressed naming, nearly extremely fine

Herbert Bruce Lewis was born on 24 June 1883 at Penistone, Yorkshire and arrived in India around 1906, joining the Assam Valley Light Horse. In 1907 he was listed as an Engineer for Deamoolie Tea Limited in the Doom Dooma District, Lakimpur. By the time of the Great War he was an Assistant for the Balijan Division of the Eastern Tea Assam Company and was awarded his Medal in 1926 (Army Order 491 refers). Lewis returned to live at the Prestbury Park Hotel, Cheltenham by 1939 and had notched up some 30 Years Service with the Assam Valley Light Horse; sold with copied research.
