Kingdom of Two Sicilies
King George IV
1820 (31 January) LS written from Carlton House to King Ferdinand I, announcing the death of his father, King George III "whom it pleased God to release from the suffereing of a long illness on the evening of the Twenty Ninth Instant, at thirty-five Minutes past Eight O'clock". George IV does not remiss to mention that he will be "ascending the throne of this Imperial Kingdom". Signed "George R" with somewhat of a flourish, and countersigned "Castlereagh" by Lord Casterleagh on large mourning paper enclosed within mourning outer wrapper sealed with wafer seal bearing the royal crest, some cracking to the black ink of the mourning paper. An historically important letter. Photo
