George Prince Regent
1820 (25 January) LS written in French from Carlton House to "Monsieur Mon Frere!", King Ferdinand I announcing the death of the his brother Edward, Duke of Kent and Strathearn on the 23 January, 1820. Signed "George PR" on large folded mourning paper contained in outer wrapper sealed with black wax bearing the King's crest. Fine. Photo

Just six days after the letter was written, King George III died and George Prince Regent became King, which perhaps explains his unusual exclamation which begins the letter. This also makes it among the last letters to bear the signature 'George PR'.
