Benjamin Bowdon, Sir William Morice
1662 (16 December) petition from Benjamin Bowdon of Bowdon to Charles II regarding his service and loyalty to the present King and his father Charles I. Bowdon draws the King's attention to his knowledge of arrears of public money "unpardoned" in the hands of individuals "of great vallew" and requests one-third of any money that he recovers "in your Majesties name and for your Majesties use".

A note at the bottom of the page is from Sir William Morice to say that the King has referred the petition to the Lord High Treasurer. Signed "W Morice". Photo

Sir William Morice (1602 - 1676), English statesman and theologian,Lord of the Treasury (1660 - 1668).

Jervace (Gervase) Bennet (1612 -), member of parliament who coined the term 'Quakers' to refer to the Religious Society of Friends.

Lieutenant Colonel Robert Duckenfield (1619 - 1689), during the Civil War, Duckenfield was known for defending Stockport Bridge against Prince Rupert, conducting the siege of Wythenshawe, commanding Parliamentary forces which captured the Isle of Man, and in this role, suppressing Sir George Booth's rebellion against Richard Cromwell. During his career Duckenfield became High Sheriff of Cheshire in 1649 and Governor of Chester in 1650.
