Thomas Wriothesley, Earl of Southampton
Two warrants, 1661 (4 January) from Thomas Wriothesley, Earl of Southampton, as Lord High Treasurer, to Sir Robert Pye to strike a tally for £1,000 for "this stranger Mr. Aschwengellen". Paper with filing tear vertically through half the document and signed "T: Southampton", also 1664 (April) from Wriothesley to Sir Robert Pye to pass a quarterly payment of £300 per annum, as a pension granted by Charles II to "Dame Mary Frazer Dresser to ... the Queen", filing tear not obscuring signature "T: Southampton". Thomas Wriothesley (1607 - 1667), a statesman admired by Sir William Coventry and Samuel Pepys who became Lord High Treasurer in 1660 until 1667. Although beginning as a Parliamentarian, Wriothesley became a loyal Royalist to King Charles II.

Sir Robert Pye, Remembrancer of the Exchequer (1585-1662). Both he and his brother Sir Walter Pye, Attorney of the Court of Wards, attacked the Treasurer in 1624. Robert Pye supported the Royalist cause during the English Civil War and garrisoned his mansion at Farringdon only for it to be besieged by his own son, Robert who supported the Parliamentary cause.
