1911 Ross Smith England - Australia Flight
Ross Smith, Keith Smith, J.M. Bennett and W.H. Shiers left London on 12 November in a Vickers "Vimy" G-EAOU and arrived in Singapore on 4 December and Darwin 10 December, winning the £10,000 England-Australia air race. Mail was taken on board in England, more was uplifted en-route including Singapore.
1920 (26 Feb.) envelope addressed by Ross Smith to his mother in South Australia, bearing deep blue vignette label, GB 1d., France 10c., Italy 10c., Greece 10L, Egypt 5m., India 2a., Thailand 5s., Straits Settlements 4c,, Netherlands Indies 12½c. and Australia 2d. applied at various stages in transit and all tied by "first aerial mail/great britain to australia" oval d.s. and showing "per/vickers 'vimy' aeroplane/to australia" handstamp in blue; the envelope with flap missing.
