Type numbers quoted in this and the following sections are those by Stanley Gibbons. There are sub-types of Types 1, 2, 7 and 12 and when quoted these are used by H.R. Holmes in his article in the London Philatelist, November 1962, etc.
1877-78 First Printing in black on 1d. and red on other values
4d. blue with outer frame-line, an irregular-shaped wing-margin block of twenty-two from the right-hand pane, comprising Row 5/1-5, all Type 1a, Row 6/1-3 Type 1a and 4-5 Type 3, Row 7/1-3 Type 3 and 4 Type 8, Row 8/1-4 all Type 3, Row 9/1-2 Type 4 and Row 10/1-2 Type 2a, fresh unused with large part original gum; some perfs. between rows 6 and 7 severed with some re-enforced, nevertheless a remarkable multiple in outstanding condition, and almost certainly the largest recorded block of this value.
