Type numbers quoted in this and the following sections are those by Stanley Gibbons. There are sub-types of Types 1, 2, 7 and 12 and when quoted these are used by H.R. Holmes in his article in the London Philatelist, November 1962, etc.
1877-78 First Printing in black on 1d. and red on other values
6d. deep lilac block of twelve (3x4) from the right-hand pane, comprising Rows 7-10/4-6, Row 7 with Types 8 (very rare, occurring only once per sheet of two panes), 3 and 3, Row 8 with Types 3. 2a and 4, Row 8 with Types 4, 5 and 5, and Row 10 with Types 2a, part to large part original gum with the centre vertical pair remaining unmounted; a few faults in places though of generally good to fine appearance.
