Type numbers quoted in this and the following sections are those by Stanley Gibbons. There are sub-types of Types 1, 2, 7 and 12 and when quoted these are used by H.R. Holmes in his article in the London Philatelist, November 1962, etc.
1877-78 First Printing in black on 1d. and red on other values
4d. blue with outer frame-line selection comprising Types 1b (5, one with overprint unusually grossly misplaced with part at top and part at foot of stamp, one with wing-margin and one apparently unused), 2a (3, one with reduced wing-margin), 3 (3, one apparently unused), 4, 5 and 6 (4), used and variously cancelled; fair to fine.
