Type numbers quoted in this and the following sections are those by Stanley Gibbons. There are sub-types of Types 1, 2, 7 and 12 and when quoted these are used by H.R. Holmes in his article in the London Philatelist, November 1962, etc.
1877-78 First Printing in black on 1d. and red on other values
½d. grey-black selection comprising Types 1a (3), 2a (2), 3 (5 two with wing-margin showing damaged "G" from right-hand pane , Row 8/1, and one used), 4 (2), 5 (2, one used) and 6 (7, three with wing-margins), unused or with part original gum; faults in places though a useful group.
