1913-57 Collection of Employment Cards (2) and Lodger's permits (3), showing the progression of the native revenue issues over time. The earliest pair of Employment cards both 1913 dating from the German S.W.A. period, the first franked with 0.75m. violet (4), the second with 0.25m blue (6), for Native employees of "Mr Thompson", the next card 1929 endorsed "Native locations/ Hut Tax" bearing single 1/6d. deep blue for October 1929, two blank Lodger's permits for 1932, and a partial 1957 Lodger's permit bearing 2/7d. rose and purple (3), the following months with 1/7d. green and blue provisionally handstamped "2/7" in red(7). A splendid lot, the 1913 cards bearing the earliest Native Tax stamps of South West Africa, discovered as recently as 2010, and the 1957 2/7d surcharges previously unrecorded. Photo
