Boxer Rebellion
1900 (26 August) a Great Northern Telegraph Company telegram from Shanghai to Viceroy Tientsin, The heading Shanghai Station has been overstamped "TAKU". "London 18/8 a negro cavalry regiment has sailed from san francisco for china ..." and continues with details of General de Wet in the Boer War and concludes, "Reuter seal". The U.S. regiment in question is the 6th Cavalry Regiment but it is unlikely that they arrived before Peking had been taken
