1900 (15 Feb.) envelope (210x100mm.) to Lt. Col. G. Sterling Ryerson, representative of the Canadian Red Cross Society, marked "Evidence before Hospitals Commission" and showing a superb strike of the oval-framed "canadian contingent/en route/south africa" datestamp in violet, used a day prior to arrival at the Table Bay roadsted. A most unusual item showing the En Route datestamp that did not pass through the mail and which, until recently, was considered to be the last day of use of this rare datestamp. Photo
